Do you pluhin to learn xer production faster than ever? Xfer Records never disappoints with their top-tier plugins and forward thinking. Usually, we take the top of an existing kick drum and add our own low end, which is often just a synth filling out the oomph that we need. Could do with its own browser. Nerve's interface is divided into three main sections: It helps you do so much with its many key functions including velocity control, cutoff, pitch, and so much more.
Confusingly, though, none of the kits have names referring to what they sound like, which is frustrating when seeking something specific. The top half allows you to edit the ADHSR envelope attack, decay, hold, sustain, releasewhile the bottom half allows you to edit where the sample starts. In fact, for anyone who uses a lot of samples and loops, Nerve could well be the next level. And if you would like to edit the sample itself, you have access to a sample editor underneath this section. Whether you've dialled in a groove yourself or plugni it from audio, you can save it as a preset to apply to other loops in the project so that everything grooves together, or for recall on another session.
It's true that it lacks many standard effects you might expect from a drum programming tool, such as reverb, delay, compression, but you've surely got plug-ins aplenty that can enrve those tasks. You don't have to use the pattern functions, of course, as you can trigger the pads using MIDI.
Add to that the creative groove implementation, over 2GB of artist-created samples, the comprehensive LFO and the Repeater function and Nerve has a lot of bases covered.
Following on from the success of last year's Vsh sample pack, Xfer Records has launched into the software world proper with Nerve, a drum machine with a powerful effects section and sequencer, up to eight stereo outputs and, refreshingly, no authorisation codes or dongles to contend with. I recently got into the Xfer Nerve software drum machine, which lets you combine sounds to make your own kick drum.
